7th grade Brain Bowlers!
We will practice today in Mrs. Carstensen's classroom (3068) right after school so we can dominate at State competition March 7! All Brain Bowl participants are welcome to come, but 7th grade Brain Bowlers must attend.
Are you a 7th grade girl who’s interested in STEM? If so, stop by the front office and pick up a flyer for Eureka! - a comprehensive program in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math offered in an all-girl environment by Girls Inc of Metro Denver and held at Metropolitan State University.
This past weekend Powell Technology Student Association competed in the state TSA Competition. Great work was presented by all participants.
Qualifying in semifinals in fourteen different events included Andrew Weston, Chase Novinger, Aly Bruno, Heidi Hucke, Heather Wember, Ryan Fisher, Tate Mitchell, Josh Wember and Jonah Rowlison.
Taking home a 3rd Place finish in Mass Production was the team of Graycee Bohlen, Claire Easley, Julia Hildahl, Keira Kou, Ben Spielman and Kaden Wass.
Placing 1st in the following events included Kaden Wass in Digital Photography,
Electrical Application - Ben Spielman and Kaden Wass;
Microcontroller Design - Ben Spielman, Kaden Wass;
Kaden led the team as the TSA Powell President being part of four top three finishing events.
The final award of the day was the Kendrick’s Flight Award in honor of Kendrick Castillo where Gillian Steinhart was presented with this award on the main stage by Kendrick Castillo’s parents.
In May of 2019 Kendrick Castillo gave his life to protect his classmates and teachers. This award was presented in honor of this student and the great things he represents. The important messages his parents had for the entire state TSA association was to help one another, have empathy and simply say thank you to the person next to you.
Students that earned a 1st, 2nd and 3rd place finish qualify for Nationals this coming June in Nashville, Tennessee.

February is Positive Friends Month for Sources of Strength. Has someone been a good friend to you? Do you want to recognize them for helping you in some way? Maybe they helped you pick up books that you dropped in the hall. Maybe they invited you to join their lunch table. Maybe they helped you get caught up in class after you were sick. All Powell teachers and staff have gold-colored Positive Friend forms in their classrooms, offices, etc. for you to use. There will also be forms available at lunch. Any time you experience someone being a Positive Friend, you can fill out a form recognizing that person. Forms can be turned into the grade level boxes each day in the lunchroom. Every Friday at lunch, we will hold a drawing for 4 students at each grade level. These students will win a cool leather bracelet with a motivational quote on it. Join the campaign and be a Positive Friend!
The cast list for the spring play will be posted after school today outside of Mr. Kelley's room (1039) and Mrs. Hayes' room (3048). Thanks again to all of those who tried out--while not everyone received a part, the decision was incredibly tough! Rehearsals start after school TOMORROW (Wed, 2/5) from 4-5 in Mr. Kelley's room, so make sure you have arrangements made!
Good luck to our 8th grade boys basketball C team as they enter the tournament semifinals at Euclid after school today!
Though it was a tough competition, they showed great improvement and worked hard. The Powell team also won a prize for the best t-shirts at the event. Way to go Pumas!
