Friday, April 29th

Your 8th grader volleyball girls started their tournament on Thursday afternoon. They traveled to Newton to take on the Knights in a familiar matchup.

The A girls came out of the gates quickly as they were able to jump on Newton thanks to some clutch serves and great hits from the girls as they won 25-23. The second game did not go as smoothly as the girls lost 15-25. The girls were determined to get the job done in three games, but the Knights were just a little too much to handle as the girls lost 13-15.

The B girls came out a little flat footed. But they worked through their issues and pushed back against the Knights as they lost 20-25 in the first game. And then something remarkable happened. Something neither of the coaches have ever seen happen before. A player was able to get 25 straight serves in without the Knights being able to do anything about it. So your Pumas won the second game by the score of 25-0. Thanks Sammy for being a rockstar of a server. The girls tried to carry that excitement and energy into the third game only to be undone by their passes as they lost in three games.

Volleyball girls please take a minute - right now - to check your email and respond to the Google Form that Mr. Genson sent out.

Everyone please come out on Saturday to support the girls as they play at 11 with the B girls, 12 with the A girls and 1 o'clock with the C girls who are the only ones who will be trying to bring home the trophy. Girls please arrive 30 minutes before the start time for your game.

As you enter our building you will see a box on the ramp where we are collecting usable shoes for Soles4Souls. Since Soles4Souls began in 2006, they’ve distributed over 35 million pairs of shoes in 127 countries and all 50 US states. Did you know that EVERY SINGLE ONE of those pairs makes a difference in people’s lives? The used shoes collected will go to helping entrepreneurs in places like Haiti and Honduras create sustainable income for themselves! In fact, the sale of just 1 pair of shoes can provide 5 meals for families in Haiti. What an impact! The box will be here until the end of this month, so clean out those closets!

The 8th grade C girls took on the girls from Options on Thursday night. The Options girls came out with amazing serves and fantastic bumps as they dominated our girls in two quick games. The Powell girls seemed flat as their energy level never seemed to peak.

The next group of C girls was determined to bring more energy to the court. So much so that the girls were able to get a bump, set, and hit on the overhand serve from Options. It was the highlight of the match as the girls were able to pull out the win in three games.

Please get out there and support the girls as they start their playoffs when we get back from Washington DC.

The 8th grade volleyball teams traveled to Euclid on Tuesday afternoon. The A girls lost in 3 competitive games, but they went down swinging. During the third and decisive game there was only one play that they did not get an overhand swing on the ball.
The B girls also lost in 3 competitive games. Highlights were seen by Kacky R as she had numerous amazing digs. Sammie N was a serving machine, Emery M kept the girls in the final game and Grace P had perfect passes throughout the entire match.
The C girls were matched up in a serving battle. The girls missed too many serves that kept Euclid in the game, but they pulled out the win in 3 games thanks to the hustle of Audrey O and the serves of Jocelyn G.
Please come out on Thursday to support the C girls as they take on Options.

MathCounts will not be meeting today. Please stay tuned to Google Classroom for dates of future meetings.

Two of the three Powell girls volleyball teams had a rough night against the Goddard Vikings at home yesterday afternoon. Try as they might, the girls just could not hold off the Vikings and the A team lost their match 7-21 and 9-21.

Try as they might, and try they did, the B team lost in 3 games. After a close win the first game, 21-17, and despite good serves from many of the girls, Goddard pulled ahead and won game two 18-21 and took the match with the 3rd game of 15-17.

The C team left their season with a W. They won the first game 21-14 and in game 2, Morgan Hendron served the first 17 points, her first four serves as Aces. Cate Murphy finished off the match with 3 great serves for the win. The C team had 100% serving yesterday!! Way to go!

Congratulations go out to all the ladies who played. You all made improvements in your game, had positive attitudes and were a lot of fun to be with. Your coaches look forward to celebrating with you next Tuesday, April 19, from 4-5 in Miss Goerke's room, 1067.

Congratulations to Powell's 7th and 8th grade band ensemble for performing the national anthem at last night's sold-out Denver Nuggets game! The students did a fantastic job, and sounded great! It was a historic night, as Nikola Jokić made history by becoming the first player to score 2,000 points, grab 1,000 rebounds, and have 500 assists in a single NBA season. Russel Wilson was also in the house, and our very own Emily Martineau received one of the footballs he signed at the game! Great job, Pumas!

The 8th grade girls volleyball teams took on a tough opponent from Euclid. The Euclid A team had some great servers and they fought for every loose ball. But the Powell A-team would not be denied the victory. The girls served so well in the first game that only 3, yes you heard that right only 3 girls served the team to 21 points. The second game the Powell girls missed some serves as Euclid got the win. But the girls rallied behind a great team effort and the amazing serves from Morgan A. She stepped to the service line with no room for error as the score was 11-14. After she was done, the team had notched a 16-14 victory thanks to her clutch serves.

The B girls faced their first opponent of the year who was interested in playing volleyball the correct way. The girls struggled passing in the first game and lost. But there was a spark in the team as they came out in the second game absolutely ready to dominate. The girls only allowed Euclid to score a combined 13 points over the next two games - that is unheard of in a volleyball match. Clutch serves came from Liv K, Emery M and Chloe F.

The C girls might have played their best game of the year. They served fantastically well as the team only gave up 25 points over the combined two games. Multiple times the girls were able to get 3 touches when the ball was on their half of the court. Great plays were made by Amy C, Audrey T, and Ryley D. The serving rockstars included Lily E, Avery L and Jay S.

Please come over to Euclid on Tuesday to support the girls as they wrap up their regular season.

The 8th grade volleyball girls went over to Newton and played some competitive volleyball.  The A girls were led by the clutch serves and hits of Lilah V.  Cate M. was absolutely everywhere on the court and on multiple occasions refused to let the ball hit the ground.  The girls' efforts were not enough as Newton got some timely serves to win in three close games.

The B girls faced off with a good serving and bumping opponent from Newton.  The Powell girls were led by some clutch serves of their own from Sophie B. and Kacky R.  And wow you should have seen the amazing overhand attacks from Abby B. & Grace P.  But the bumps from Newton were too much in the end as the girls also lost in three close games.

The C girls came out of the gate ready for anything.  That was anything until they encountered the clutch underhand serves from Newton.  But the girls battled and never gave up.  Brianna M-M. found a way to get multiple overhand attacks on the ball that scored points.  The girls aren't very far away from putting together all of the pieces to complete their three hits more consistently.  To go with the theme of the other two matches the C girls lost in three very close games.

Please come out on Thursday as the girls take on Euclid here at Powell.

CONGRATULATIONS to all 3 of the 7th-grade girls volleyball teams who SWEPT the Newton Knights last night in our home gym. In the A team match, the girls showed great hustle and communication while working on their 3 touch plays, several of which earned them points over the one-touch wonder, Newton Knights. Annie B was the MVP of this game with several serves in, including two aces, and great spirit on the court.
The B team also did a fantastic job with serves and hustle on the court. Cass A was our serving MVP with a total of 8 points for Powell in two games!
The C team also out-served the Knights, winning their first game by 15 points! A special shout out to Everett B for always showing spirit and support for the team with high 5s after nearly every play!
We hope to be supported by another energetic crowd at our last home game versus Goddard on Monday, April 11. See you there!

Your 8th grade girl volleyball players went over to Goddard yesterday afternoon and represented Powell very, very well.

The A team played the game with a different level of energy and excitement than they have played with all season. As a result the girls took down the previously undefeated Vikings in two games. The girls were led by great serves and many, many over hand hits as they won 21-14 and 21-16.

The B girls played the first game as if they were coming off a 13 day break as they spotted the Vikings a 1-12 lead which led to a quick loss in that first game. The second game was completely different as they won by 4 points thanks to clutch serves by Emery M and Keira S. The third and final game was decided by the fact that Goddard served just a little bit better than your pumas as they lost 11-15.

The C girls tried their very best to get three hits when the ball was on their side of the court. The game ultimately was decided by the girl's serves and passing ability as they won in three very exciting games.

Please come out on Tuesday and Thursday of next week to support your 8th grade volleyball teams.
