Last night our 8th grade girls basketball team challenged the Newton Knights. The "A" team rallied hard in the 2nd half with hard work and gumption by Annalise Cote and Macie Miller, yet we couldn't quite capture the lead Newton had obtained in the first half. We look forward to meeting them again in the finals!
The B team came out blazing and kept the lead to win their entire game! Tough defense by Kaitlyn Musgrave, Indiya Bland & Sophia Orley, helped the team hold the Knights down, while Ryley David swished away many hoops to put the score on the board! Great job B team!
Next game is this Thursday at Euclid ...come support your Puma team if you can!

Attention sports fans, your Powell 7th, and 8th-grade wrestling team had a great showing at last night's district tournament, but unfortunately, we came up short of our goal to repeat as champions. All the other schools brought solid rosters and it was a very exciting night of combat sport. Finishing in third place in the tournament were Sam Moorhead, Guy Slaybough, and Ethan Choi. Finishing in second place in the tournament were Mason Mitchell, Fletcher Farley, Gio Caranna, and Cayden Comstock. Finally, the

District Champion wrestlers for the 2021 season from Powell are Leyton Reeves, Sawyer Gostenik, Ezra Pescevic, and DJ Woodley. Congratulations to you all on a great season.

While our Founding Fathers, presidents, and military leaders are remembered as heroes of American culture, it's often overlooked how indigenous people contributed to many of the major events in the nation's history. November is Native American Heritage Month and here is a Native American who left a lasting mark with their leadership, bravery, and innovations:

A Lemhi Shoshone Native American who was abducted by an enemy tribe and found herself married to a French Canadian trapper, Sacagawea, stepped into the limelight when she joined the Lewis and Clark expedition, baby boy in tow, in April 1805. Along with serving as a translator for negotiations with the Shoshones, the teenage mother contributed to the mission's success with her knowledge of vegetation and geographical checkpoints, enduring illness and the elements until returning to her South Dakota home in August 1806. Sacagawea soon slipped back into the shadows and died less than a decade later, though another version holds that she rejoined her people and lived to be nearly 100 years old.

Sacagawea, a Native American that we honor this month for Native American Heritage Month.

November is Native American Heritage Month and here is a Native American who left a lasting mark with their leadership, bravery, and innovations:

Also known by his proper name of Wahunsenacawh, Powhatan is perhaps best remembered as the father of Pocahontas, a woman (also called Matoaka) known for her role in English colonial settlement at Jamestown, Virginia in the early 1600s. He was also a massively powerful chief at the time, his authority extending over 30 tribes and some 15,000 Algonquian-speaking people of the coastal Virginia area. Powhatan had a mixed relationship with the newcomers, his early assistance giving way to open warfare as they battled for control over the territory, though their relations were largely peaceful by the time of his death in 1618.
