The 8th grade girl's basketball teams played hard at Euclid on Saturday to finish their season.
B team scrapped it up, as usual, but the ball just did not fall through the hoop in our favor. Having her best game of the season, Lorana Johnson, had nice rebounds, drives to the hoop and quick instincts, while Sophia Orley & Addi Marciano saw the ball at some crucial points for some amazing steals! Great hustle girls and nice work this season!
The entire A team played an absolutely, hard fought game against Newton, but fell short to their shooting percentage. Our defense was spot on the entire game but most of all, the girls played with heart until the very end. Macie Miller fought tooth and nail for every ball, while Olivia Soto & Alexa LeDuff kept us on the board.
Mrs. Thurmond and Ms. Bowlen couldn't be any more proud of all of you.
Uniforms need to be washed and turned in by Wednesday at the Lunch Team celebration. See you there!

Happy Friday Pumas! Thanks to all who came out and supported our 3rd annual/or actually turns out 4th annual Chili Cook-Off!! It was a tight competition with a variety of flavors, secret ingredients, and spice. Coming in 3rd with a unique flavor was Liam Valentine with his White Bean Chicken Chili, in 2nd was Mr. Chavers with a solid traditional chili, but some 'secret' smoked sausage that pushed him onto the podium, and finally our big winner this year was a spicy sensation from Monica James, DJ Woodley's mom! Congratulations to all the participants, it was a great night!

The Powell gym was hopping last night with the 8th grade girls Semi Finals!

The A team rocked the court against Euclid heading into the finals to play for 1st against Newton on Saturday. High scoring came from Olivia Soto with 14 points and Alexa LeDuff with 7, while tough, on point defense, was given by Cate Marlin and Macie Miller. Way to go girls...let's bring the championship home!
The B team fought tooth & nail against Newton only to lose in the last 30 seconds by 1 basket. It was a phenomenal team effort with Lorena Johnson & Indiya Bland making some key defensive moves while Sophia Orley worked hard for the ball with many steals driving the ball up the court! Great teamwork girls!

There was some great excitement at Euclid for the girl's basketball team last night! The "A" team took the win with a super, well-played game by all players.

Alexa LeDuff was on fire hitting 4, 3 point shots, while Olivia Soto dropped 2, 3 pointers and made some key assists. Post plays going up strong for the ball were made by Talayah Grant & Olivia Williams forcing the fouls and leading her to the line!

Although the "B" team played scrappily and fought hard, we came up short at the end. Addie Marciano and Sophia Orley fought hard playing defense and for the ball, giving them many opportunities to drive it down the court. It was a great effort by all and we look forward to beating Euclid in the playoffs.

Great job girls and we'll see you at practice on MONDAY!!
