For the Fitness Finals, the 8th Grade Jump Rope competition took place last Friday. With agility and speed, the competition was FIERCE! Congratulations to our winners Maddox Carroll and Katie Usagani! Good job jumpers!
Next up this week is the 20-minute run Fitness Final!

Hey Pumas! I'm Braedan Longoria, your Thespian Troupe publicist. To start off, a HUGE thank you to everyone that showed up last night! We hope you enjoyed our musical, Dear Edwina. Tonight will be our second night of our musical. It will be hosted in the cafetorium and by our Thespian Troupe. Admission as always is free, but bring the money for some good snacks for intermission. All money will be given to our Thespian Troupe to make better plays and musicals in the future. Be at the cafetorium by 7pm tonight. If you can't make it tonight, don't worry! We still have one more night of show this Saturday, or tomorrow, at the same time. We hope to see you there!


After school today our 8th grade boys volleyball club will be taking on the Powell staff in a friendly competition. Who will be better? The students or the teachers? Stick around after school to watch it all go down! Remember there is no late bus, so you will need to arrange rides with your families. After the game be sure to relax and enjoy your fellow students as they perform their second show of Dear Edwina.

Good morning Powell! This is Braedan Longoria, your Thespian Troupe publicist. Tonight is the night! What is tonight some might wonder? Tonight is show night for our musical Dear Edwina. That's right! We are so excited to host you tonight for a story of happiness and strength. Admission is free but bring money for concessions! For the Fitness Finals this week, the Plank finals competitors were strong and steady! Shout out and Congrats to our winners - Katie Usagani planked for 6 minutes and 4 seconds and Aiden McCollum held a plank for an outstanding 10 minutes and 6 seconds which is now a new school record. Make sure you check the pictures of our fitness final competitors in the gym hall. Good job planksters!

Basketball club will be meeting tomorrow morning at 7:15. We would love to have any 7th or 8th grader interested in playing basketball join us. We only have 4 more chances to meet, so set your alarm and come ball with us!

Admission is of course free, but remember to bring money for concessions that will be sold at intermission. Be there at the cafetorium by 7 o'clock pm. If you forget, that's completely fine! We have two more nights for you to come. Those nights are Friday and Saturday at the same time, and same deals for admission. We hope to see you there!

Yesterday, the Push-up Fitness Final took place and we had some outstanding performances. Congratulations to 3rd place Cam Carnes, 2nd place Domi Kish, and a tie for 1st place with 58 Push-ups - Griffen Candland & Caden Muller. In the girl's competition in 3rd place was Grace Farley, 2nd place was Nell Stalilonis, and your 2024 Push-up champion with 49 was Katie Usagani. Congrats to all who participated! Way to flex!

You will learn how to run all the races and compete in all the field events like shot putt, discus, long jump and high jump and find out which one you can dominate. We will meet in the gym right after school today. Definitely come dressed to run. That means running shoes are a must. Please do not wear slides or crocs. If you have any questions please see Coach Ennis or Coach Etchells.

This weekend all three of our girls volleyball teams played Newton in the district tournament for 3rd place!
A and B teams brought home awesome wins and played some really fun volleyball! Our C team brought home 4th place! All players showed the growth they’ve made this season and we are so proud of them.
Great job this season, ladies and thank you for all of your hard work!

Last night our A and B teams played the Goddard Vikings to determine their spot for the district tournament this weekend.


Both teams fought hard and played so well. Both A and B took the games to 3 sets, but unfortunately ended the night in a loss. We are so proud of the hard work the girls have put in this season and we are excited for them to play for 3rd place this weekend. You got this, pumas!

Last night our 8th grade volleyball C team played in the semi-finals!
In their first game, they beat Newton to advance on to play Euclid later in the night. The second game unfortunately ended in a loss, but the girls fought hard! Syd Crantit led us in her serving and the rest of the team worked hard to chase after the balls!
C team will be playing for 3rd place on Saturday at the district tournament! Wish them luck!!!

Just a reminder that there will be Tennis Club today after school. Tennis Club will start today! We will meet at the tennis courts after school and play until 4:45. If you have a racquet bring it, but if you are in need of a racquet there will be extras provided. There will be a ball machine to practice your forehand or backhand and courts to play against your classmates. So come out and have fun and learn how to play.

Congratulations to all of our Battle of the Books participants this year! After a close, school-wide battle last Friday, we determined our top 8 qualifiers and 2 alternates who will represent Powell at the District Competition on May 2.

The girls took another win and they played a great game. Even when they got down, they were able to bring the scores back up. Their serving really helped the team advance and all of them went for every ball. Great job C team and good luck in the semi-finals!

On Friday before the break, our amazing runners competed in the PACER fitness finals. Congratulations to all who participated. For the girls, the top three were 3rd-Sami Bell, 2nd-Erin Dickes, and our 1st place Champion girl was Katie Usagani with 82 lines. In the boys' competition, tied for 2nd was Nash McMonigle and Rylan Sinclair, and our 1st place Champion was Silas Folk with 103 lines. Great job!!!

Reminder for any incoming freshman that are considering HHS, and HHS volleyball, there is an informational meeting TODAY, 4/3, 4pm in the Health Room. Go in the Athletic Entrance, and the Health Room is on the right, just after the entrance to the pool.

Last night our 8th grade volleyball teams played the Newton Knights!
Our A team brought home another win with Cora Amann having 8 consecutive serves in a game and Scarlett Segura having 12 consecutive serves that could not be returned. Josie Winger also came into the game ready to go and Rene Schell had multiple kills that helped the team advance. Great job A team!

B team unfortunately had a loss last night. Payton Fisher had some great serves and Kalyhea Jordan stepped up into a position at the last minute to help the team and did a great job. We believe in you B team!!

C team took their first win of the season last night! Even with a lot of adjustments, their energy was high and their serves were awesome including Ghena Kanchan getting 6 consecutive serves and two kills throughout the sets! Congrats on your first win C team, keep it up!!

8th grade boys volleyball club will be starting in just 12 days. If you are interested in joining Powell's Boys Volleyball Club, visit Mrs. Marshall's room to sign up and grab a flyer.


Basketball club will be meeting this Friday morning at 7:15. All 7th and 8th graders interested in ending the week playing a little basketball are welcome.

Oh my goodness, oh my goodness! Our Battle of the Books readers have been busy, busy reading sooooo many books. Join me in wishing them the best of luck as they compete at our Powell Battle of the Books competition this Friday during tutorials. Top competitors will earn a spot to compete in the district competition on May 2 at Littleton Prep!

Last night the 8th grade volleyball teams played the Euclid Falcons.

A team unfortunately took a loss, but Maddie Pepe was able to pass some of the tricky balls and Grace Murphy didn't let the game get her down. Keep your heads up ladies!

B team also ended in a loss but didn't leave without a fight. Their passing really helped them and even when they were under pressure, they didn't break. Way to play strong girls!

C team went to 3 games and played so well, but ended in a loss. Kaitlin Canas was all over the court and Syd Crantit served some tough serves. Great job C team.
