Just a reminder that Beginning Cooking Club will meet after school today.

The results are in! After an intense round of collecting and counting yesterday, we have already raised almost $400 as a school in the first few days of the competition. Our 6th grade CORE classes this year are dominating with money raised so far. Watch out!

While Mrs. Chavers' CORE+ had the most pennies, she unfortunately experienced quite a bit of sabotaging as well. This allowed Mrs. Boehmler's CORE+ to take the lead and earn the most positive points for the first round of the competition. Congratulations to Mrs. Boehmler's CORE+! We will reach out to you to coordinate a time to receive your prize.

Keep fighting strong Pumas! We have a week to go and the totals will continue to build upon what you have earned so far. Mrs. Calkins' CORE+ currently has the most points in 7th grade and Mr. Sprague's CORE+ has the most points in 8th grade, but it is anyone's competition! Keep strategizing and bring in those pennies! Teachers - please note that you have access to the Google Spreadsheet if you would like to see the results of your own CORE+ class.

Basketball club starts tomorrow morning! Any 7th or a 8th grade students interested in joining should stop by Mrs. Marshall's room to sign up. Basketball club will meet every Friday morning from 7:15 - 8:10.

If you haven't been paying attention or are forgetful here is one of your final reminders - the first movie afternoon will be THIS Friday, featuring “the Live Action - Aladdin”. The movie begins at 3:45. Concessions will be available and all proceeds go towards the thespian troupe. Turn in your CORE cards TODAY in order to have a chance at winning VIP seats and benefits. Looking forward to seeing you there! Please be sure your ride is here at 5:45 to pick you up.

Last night our 8th grade volleyball teams took on the Newton Knights! All three teams played really well and were super flexible in their first games of the season!

A team came away with a victory in 2 games with the help of Cora Amann and Scarlett Segura's serves, great defense from Rene Schell and 2 kills from Shay Wilcox! Way to start the season ladies!

B team played really hard, but came out a little short. Lilly Shurtleff helped out the team with 7 points from her serving, Harriett Jewell was a super positive team member who was all over the court, and Erin Dickes was exactly where she needed to be with her passing. With a ton of girls, there is a lot of skill and talent and we can't wait to see them grow the rest of the season.

C team fought through 3 games with no substitutions! Unfortunately, it ended in a loss but every player stayed positive and played their hardest. Jordan Whipple and Anna Rowe had great serves, and the whole team didn't let a single ball drop without someone going for it. Way to go girls.

Congratulations to our District Champion 8th grade boys B team! Saturday's game against Newton Middle School came down to the wire, but Dylan Pearson was able to grab a huge rebound with 2 seconds left in the game to secure their victory! Our Pumas showed so much heart and teamwork throughout the entire game and couldn't have had a better end to their season. Amazing game boys!

Our C team played an amazing game against the undefeated Newton Knights. They played their best game of the season, working together and leaving everything on the court. Unfortunately, they came up 1 point short in an overtime 29-28 loss.

Our A team also fell just short in the championship game against Newton Middle School, finishing as the district runner-ups. Despite the disappointing loss, these boys should hold their heads high for their undefeated regular season record, their great teamwork, leadership, positive attitudes and phenomenal individual and team performances throughout the season.

Don't forget to bring your washed uniform to Mrs. Marshall's room today after school to celebrate successful seasons by all 3 teams.

What an incredible showing for Powell.Middle School at the LPS district spelling bee! All four contestants made us proud! Thank you to all the students who came out to support our 8th grade boys basketball teams in their final home game of the season! We had an amazing crowd there to cheer us on as both the A and B teams clinched spots in the district championship games tomorrow! Nash McMonigle's double double helped lead the A team to their victory over Goddard Middle School. Merrick Franks put up 19 points and grabbed 8 rebounds while Jacob Laderer's high hops led to his 4 steals, 5 rebounds and 8 points. Each player on the A team made important contributions last night and all season long to lead up to this championship game. We would love to see you all out there at Euclid Middle School tomorrow at 2:00 to support us as we take on Newton Middle School for the District title.

Our B team faced a tight game in the 4th quarter, but big rebounds by Matthew Reynolds and Caleb Tritz helped our Pumas to pull off the win. Kaiden Vaughn's intensity and hustle were difficult for Goddard to stop and Adrian Neville's composure came up huge for Powell. Thia tough and scrappy B team will also face Newton in tomorrow's championship game tipping off at 1:00 at Euclid middle school and we would love to see you there!

Don't forget that our C team will be playing in the championship game as well and I bet you can guess who they play ... you guessed it - Newton Middle School! They will play at 12:00. Make a day of it and come support all 3 amazing boys basketball teams tomorrow!

Last night our 8th grade boys basketball teams finished up their regular season with 3 commanding wins against Euclid Middle School.

Our 8 team started out the night on fire. Nash McMonigle's 19 points, 5 rebounds, and powerful defense helped lead the Pumas to a huge 61-32 victory. Miles Upah was tough on defense with 5 steals to accompany his 5 points. Brennan Dreiling was a steady contributor in rebounds, steals, and assists and Cole Troup was solid as well scoring 10 points and grabbing 5 rebounds. The whole team was impressive and worked so well together as they clinched the top seed going into this week's tournament. Good luck A team!

The B team kept the fire going as they pounced on the Falcons. Matthew Reynolds scored 10 points and grabbed 4 rebounds to help lead the Pumas to their 27-15 victory over Euclid. Adrian Neville scored some great baskets and Shaun McNatt caused a lot of problems for Euclid's offense and defense. Our Pumas finished as the 2nd seed going into this week's tournament and look forward to our home game on Thursday.

Our C team dominated from start to finish last night. Gabe Mendoza drained 3 big 3 point baskets and showed great leadership on the floor. Christian Flores continues to be a beast on the boards leading the team in rebounds and Caleb Wright played smart defense with several big steals. Our C team is ready for our semi-final game tonight against Goddard and we hope to secure a spot in Saturday's Championship game. Good luck Pumas!

Congratulations to our MathCounts members who represented Powell at a regional math competition this past weekend at the University of Denver. There were over 200 competitors from local districts in the Denver metro area. Students Grant Brandberg, Abby Meier, Max Zhang and Jacob Baron represented the Powell team and competitors Jackson Machado, Cole Littleford and Olivia Cherney competed individually. We have lots to celebrate with two of our students, Abby Meier and Cole Littleford placing in the top 25% of competitors. This is a huge accomplishment.

We will not have a MathCounts meeting this week but stay tuned for future meeting dates this semester.

Magic: The Gathering Club will meet in Mrs. Blake's room (1068) after school next Monday, February 5. Set your decks, review your strategy, and join us for some fun competition!

Congratulations to Powell's 8th Grade Boys A team who defeated our rivals from Newton on the road 39-29. Nash McMonigle and Merrick Franks consistently show up as leaders on and off the court and last night was no exception. They contribute far more than points on the scoreboard indicate, and they score a lot of points! But we can't overlook players like Cam Fredericks, Ryder Wallace and Brennan Dreiling who continue to play with so much heart and hustle, doing the small things that make a big difference. It was a great win for our Pumas!

Our B team won as well with an epic 3-point shot by Kaiden Vaughn to take the lead with 7 seconds left in the game! Rebounds, tough defense, and teamwork made the difference for our B team last night. Vaughn's 13 points, Cayden Whitney's 12 points, and Matthew Reynolds's 10 rebounds were valuable contributions.

Our C team battled in a close game the entire night but came up 5 points short of the victory. Great teamwork kept this game close as everyone contributed points, rebounds, and steals. Bryce Simon showed selflessness as he made several key passes to his teammates, and his big 3-point basket was awesome! Keegan Mead demonstrated awareness and hustle as he led the team in rebounds. We hope we get a rematch against Newton in the tournament next week!

Good luck to our 8th grade boys basketball teams as they take on the Knights at Newton today.

Congratulations to our 7th grade boys basketball team on finishing a great season at Goddard last night!
Our A team almost pulled off an epic comeback but fell just short by four points. Finley France and Davin Scholl both dominated on defense with six steals each, and Jasiah Mora led all scores with nine points.
Our B team played a tight contest all game and we had the ball in a tied game with seven seconds left. Ethan Van Gemert shot at the buzzer and was fouled. He sank his second free throw and game us the one point victory! Grayson Ferrigno had three steals and eight points.
Our C team finished off an undefeated season with an 18 to 10 win! Leo Jurbala had three steals and four points, and six different Pumas scored points!

Boys, please bring your WASHED jerseys to Coach Altena’s room for a celebration next Tuesday.
