Greetings! We have the pleasure of announcing that Powell Middle School will be putting on a school play, Gallery by Richard Stuart Dixon, this upcoming spring semester. The game plan is to begin rehearsing in early February and to have three performances after Spring Break. With that in mind, auditions will be held at the end of January, so start preparing a one-minute, memorized, comedic monologue! If you’re interested, see Mr. Kelley in room 1039 for more details.

The 8th Grade Girls Basketball Teams took on Goddard last night in the district semi finals.

The A-Team played its best game of the year, beating the Vikings 33 to 6. Amazing ball movement and tough defense led to the decisive win. The best part? Every single player on the roster scored! The A-team will take on Euclid in the championship game on Saturday at Euclid.

The B-team also had to play Goddard's A-team due to a player shortage and unfortunately lost. The B-team will also wrap up the season on Saturday in the tournament at Euclid.

December’s Sources of Strength campaign focuses on the idea of generosity. The act of generosity is defined by Merriam-Webster as: characterized by nobel or kindly spirit; liberal in giving; and an abundance or ample proportions. Other words for generosity include: big hearted, bountiful, charitable, unselfish, and unsparing.

Please join us in being kind to one another through generous acts. Be on the lookout for generosity calendars around the building for suggestions on acts of generosity. Have a wonderful and GENEROUS December!

Last night in a packed gym at Newton Middle School, your Puma 7th and 8th grade wrestling team competed for the LPS district championship. In thrilling match after match, our athletes battled with ferocity. One after another, we seemed to alternate between easy wins by pin or gut check moments of heart pounding pride. It is not hyperbole to say many of our athletes will have stories to brag about for their whole lives. Not only did we win the team championship, but we also won eleven of the seventeen total weight classes! Hear that again, ELEVEN! The following students won first place in the tournament and are therefore the best middle school athletes in all of Littleton Public Schools: Marek Mangers, Lance Derby, Ben Barbor, Jason Nelson, Anthony Salazar, Colin Lovet, Harris Fulkerson, Brock Benson, Colin Liburdi, Manual Glavin, and Cruz Young. Second place finishers were Tyler McCAlister, William Ricenbaw, and Bodie Hall. Earning third and fourth respectively were Grant Skoulas and Sam Siegal. We are so incredibly proud of every student athlete that showed the courage to compete on our District Champion Powell Wrestling Team.

The 8th grade girls basketball teams took on Euclid last night. The A-team lost 32-22, but made a nice second half comeback after some first half struggles. Madison Dykstra led the way with 8 points.
The B Team had an exciting finish. Trailing 16-15 with 9 seconds left, Nora Calvanese stole the ball and hit a basket with just one second left, giving Powell a 17-16 win! Nora led the way with 8 points and Elena Lupo added 3.
The girls basketball tournament begins the week after break - we need a huge crowd on Tuesday as will host a semifinal game!

Your Puma wrestling team had another strong showing last night even though we were down several athletes to illness. We won 29 matches and lost only 12. The Vikings of Goddard are always well coached and as usual, they brought a team of beasts, so our efforts last night were especially noteworthy. The effort and determination your team showed was inspired. Coaches Braun and Sprague are especially proud of the following wrestlers who had impressive victories:

Anthony Salazar, who remains undefeated this season and barely breaks a sweat before pinning his opponents.

Ben Ducovany, who wrestled the best match of his life and dominated a worthy opponent.

Devin Kennealy, who wrestled lights out last night, pinning two opponents with arms the size of legs.

Nolan Dunnington, who showed tremendous growth and heart outlasting one of the better wrestlers on the Vikings squad
Cruz Young, who easily handled a man-child that outweighed him by 75 pounds and then out strategized two other beasts enroute to winning all three of his matches.

Lance Derby, who easily pinned both his opponents in the first round!

Charlie Rolf, who out hustled and out thought a freakishly strong opponent.

Mareak Mangers, who makes this combat sport look easy and won multiple solid victories.

And finally William Ricenbaw, who was a tactician and busted out high school level move combinations enroute to two decisive wins by pin.

People, we look hungry and ready to fight for the district championships next Thursday. PLEASE come to Newton next week and pack those stands. We want to bring you a 5th championship in a row and need your support!

Congratulations to the 7th grade girls basketball A and B teams for sweeping Euclid at last night’s games. The A team played stifling defense on their way to a 24 to 18 victory. Izzy Lopez led all scoring with 8 points, all in the second half, and the A team held off a late surge by Euclid to seal the win. The B team also used defence to pull out a victory as they held Euclid to 0 points in the first half. Elizabeth Tripeny led all scoring with 10 points as the Pumas won 14 to 9. Come out and support our 7th grade girls for their final game next Tuesday against Newton right after school in the gym!

Attention all chess players. The LPS district chess tournament is approaching! This year's tournament will be held at Newton Middle School on Saturday, December 7. See Ms. Erickson or Mr. Lacey for details and entry forms. All entry forms are due by Tuesday, November 19.

We want to thank all of the students, staff, community members and everyone else who made it out to the 3rd annual chili cook off contest! We had over 20 chilis entered into the contest and they were all fantastic! There were chilis in all varieties and people were totally impressed. In my opinion, Mr. Krenz's chili was the best, but because he is a staff member, he could not win. Nevertheless, we had two Powell students who had their chilis in the top three! Maya Winger's delicious chili won 3rd place! Great work Maya. In addition, Aiden Colella's delectable chili took home the 2nd place prize! Way to go Aiden! Overall it was a wonderful night full of delicious food and fun. Thank you everyone for participating and help make this night a success!

The Powell 8th grade girls basketball teams traveled to Goddard last night.
The A-Team stayed undefeated with a 27-10 win over the Vikings. Izzy Caranna and Bella Cote did a great job distributing the ball to open people and the team played great overall defense. Maddie Dykstra scored 8 to lead the way, Maddie Braun added 6 and Bella Sandoval scored 4 for the Pumas.
The B-Team also stayed undefeated, beating Goddard 17-10. Rowan Hughes and Elena Lupo did a great job cleaning up the glass and playing defense. Evelyn Jenkins scored 11 points and Lexi Nottingham scored 4 to lead the B-Team.
Great job, ladies!

The Puma 7th and 8th grade wrestling team had it's second meet of the season last night and looked dominant! We had lots of thrilling victories. Folks, we have a really impressive squad this year, so find a wrestler today and tell them how proud you are. With over 50 matches last night, again there are far too many to recount, but we have some special shouts out to a handful of wrestlers that went beast mode last night: Sam Seigal won three matches by pin last night! Jason Nelson is new this year but is undefeated on the season and is easily beating far more experienced athletes. Anthony Salazar is straight up dominating people on the mat. Thomas Sweetman won all three of his matches last night convincingly. Ben Barbour is a force of nature and won both his matches by pin and Bodie Hall won his matches easily and shows great growth each meet. We host Goddard next Thursday here at Powell for our final meet before districts, some come on out and cheer on YOUR Puma Wrestling team!

Your Puma 7th and 8th grade wrestling squad had their first match of the season last night at Goddard Middle School. People, your team looked strong out there! We saw many impressive matches last night, but most importantly, our athletes showed courage and pride on the mat. With more than 50 total bouts, there are far too many wins from last night to list them all, but some of your peers that had especially exciting victories were: Jason Nelson, Collin Lovett, Cruz Young, Ryan Fisher, Mitch Schriefer, Lance Derby, Jackson Pumphrey, and Braeden Sisler.
We have a large and talented group of athletes, so if you want to see a thrilling combat sport in person, come cheer on all the athletes tomorrow after school when we face the Newton Knights during the chili cook off!

The 8th Grade girls B team took on the Newton Knights last night and came away with a 17-5 win! The team played suffocating defense and moved the ball around well. Evelyn Jenkins led the way with 6 points for the Pumas, while Alex Perez, ELena Lupo, Rowan Hughs and Nora Calvanese all also scored. The B team improved to 3 wins and no losses on the year! Great job, ladies!

We would like to welcome Lt Colonel Vorry Moon here to Powell today. If you were not in attendance on Saturday you missed some great volleyball. As the Powell girls showed everyone how much they have improved. The C girls started showing off first, but they came out a little bit tentative. They found a way to fight back and showed the determination and patience it took to learn how to get 3 hits. Even after the girls lost the 1st game they did not give in to the horrible style of volleyball of their opponent. The girls doubled down on their serves and 3 hits to fight back as they won the 2nd game. The 3rd game needed deep and consistent serves from the girls but they could not execute as the girls lost in heartbreaking fashion with a score of 12-15 in the 3rd game. Regardless of the outcome the coaches were proud of their effort and we can say with 100% confidence that out C girls understand how to play real volleyball.
The B girls came out determined to not let the same thing happen to them. They were a little bit nervous to start, but once things got going the girls stepped up. The girls used good passes, amazing sets and deep serves to put pressure on their opponent. So many of the B girls did great, but some highlights were Juliet S with her serves, Emma L with her sets, Piper P with the owning of the net and Scarlett R with her great hits. The girls got the job done and earned the win. The B girls were the most dominant of the 3 teams as they only gave up double digit points to their opponents in 1 of the 4 games they played. Awesome job ladies.
The most exciting or heart stopping match came from the A girls. The girls were visibly nervous when they started. But they put together enough good serves and attacks to win the first game by 5 points. The 2nd game was a different story. Something happened and the wheels came off the bus as the girls could not execute anything. They were pummeled by a score of 7-21. The girls needed to show some resiliency if they were going to get the job done and pull out the win. They started off slow in the 3rd game by spotting Eulicd a 0-3 lead. But the clutch serves of Ellen M, Megan B, Rowan H and Annalyse B are what allowed the team to pull out the victory by a score of 15-11.
Congratulations girls on a fantastic season and pay attention for the announcement of the end of the year celebration.

Attention all Pumas. The district finals for 8th grade volleyball will be held tomorrow here at Powell. Come support our girls tomorrow in their exciting conclusion to a fantastic season. Please email me a reminder to provide specific game times for this announcement!

Alright, alright, alright, it's time to run the annual Puma Prowl! Powell is holding the 22nd annual Prowl next Tuesday, Oct 8th at 4 pm. What better way to get a good workout in, be social with friends, win some great prizes in the student raffle and be a part of this fun community event.
It is free, family members can join, and there is no RSVP required. Just show up next Tuesday after school on the upper fields where the race will occur. Late busses will be offered after the race/raffle. We hope to see you there!!

Today is the very last day for your parents to submit Baby Ads for the 2019/20 The Prowl Yearbook. Remind your parents about this firm deadline and pick up an instruction sheet in the front office.

If you have any immunization records that your parents have given you to turn into the health office, please do that sometime today.

This month’s Sources of Strength campaign is Healthy Activities and we need pictures of you participating in healthy activities. Bring your pictures of you snuggling with your pets, reading books, meditating, sweating your face off, singing, or doing whatever else brings a smile to your face into the Counseling Office and be entered in a drawing for prizes!

Your 8th grade volleyball players once again represented Powell well on Thursday afternoon. The A girls put on an absolute clinic. They had some of the best sets of the season as many of the A girls had impressive attacks as a result of the pretty sets. But it was the impressive serves from Kylee C, Rowan H, Ellen M and Megan B that carried the team to victory. Your Pumas won by a score 21-8 and 21-8. Holding a team to less than double digit points in both games is not done very often at all - well done girls. Thus the A girls earned the right to play for the championship on Saturday.
The B girls came out strong as they passed well and had consistent serves. This combination was deadly when combined with the deep serves from Juliet S and Elyssa J that helped carry the team to victory in the 1st game. And honestly it wasn't even close as they won 21-6. The second game was a different story as the Pumas struggled with their serve. Goddard also stepped up and they passed so much better this game which kept the pressure on the Pumas. The girls would not give in and they continued to have good passes that allowed for many overhand swings. Scarlett R was the leader in that category as she had so many overhand hits that we couldn't keep up with all of the. But none of those over hand attacks could have been possible without the great sets from Piper P, Priscilla C and Emma L.

Attention NJHS members. We are in DESPERATE need for volunteers at Twain's fall festival tomorrow. Please see Google Classroom for details and talk to Mrs. Stevenson or Mrs. Donda if you can help out. Our NJHS students represent at this event every year so let's keep up the tradition!

Magic: The Gathering Club will meet today in Mrs. Blake's room after school. Join us for some strategic competition!

All three of the 7th grade girl's volleyball teams were victorious against Goddard yesterday afternoon!
Dani S. was the star of the game on the A team, bringing her team to a victory in both games when they were down 13-19 - serving 8 points in a row. Then did it again in game two! Even time outs couldn't break her focus. Lakyn W was a star defender with great digs and passes. Layla G was a great all around player on the court.
The B team MVP was Ava H with her unstoppable serving- 10 in a row for the win and her hustle and hits in both games. Diana F and Hannah C rounded out the great playing with their serves and passing.
The C team had several two hit plays and many of the girls score 2 or 3 points in a row. The girls had many unreturnable serves and had some hustle on the court. In game one, Lucy R started us out with a 3 point lead and later in the game Alexis L served several points in a row.
Congrats to all the girls on a fabulous season. Please bring back your CLEAN jerseys to Ms. Becker in the gym or Miss Goerke in 1067. See you in November for our celebration.

Wow was there some exciting volleyball that happened at Newton yesterday afternoon. The C girls were feeling great after pulling out the win the night before at Goddard. They carried that energy into the first game of the night as they took an early lead against Euclid. The girls started the first game off hot as Evelyn J served about 12 straight points to give the girls a lead. That lead was too much for the Falcons to overcome as the Pumas won 21-6. The second game was much tighter but the girls had clutch passes when they needed them as they completed the sweep vs the Falcons.
The girls earned the right to take on the #1 team from Options who had only 1 loss for the season. The first game was a back and forth affair. The Pumas pulled out the win as the stud server from Options struggled and we had clutch serves from Linnea P and Vicki H. The highlight of the afternoon came in the 2nd game. The stud server from Options brought her team back as the Pumas saw their 7-3 lead evaporate away into a 12-7 deficit. The girls did not give up and had 3 different plays that saw 3 hits with an over hand swing. Some of the girls who were about of those plays included De M., Nora C., Anessa J and Zoey D. The girls fought hard and saw their efforts rewarded as they pulled out the win in the 2nd game by a score of 21-19. Please come out on Saturday as the C girls have earned the right to play for the 1st district championship at 1:00 PM here at Powell. See you there.

Tuesday, October 1st

Tuesday, October 1st

It's tournament time, Powell! Good luck to our 8th grade volleyball C team today as they travel to Newton for the district semifinals!

MathCounts will meet on THURSDAY morning this week. Please note the change and be in Mrs Dondelingrs room at 8 am to start your day off right with some math fun! We will NOT meet on Wednesday afternoon this week.

Attention NJHS members. We have a mandatory meeting this Wednesday at 9:15 am. Please meet in the cafeteria on time and communicate with Mrs. Donda if you cannot make it. Details for the induction ceremony are on Google Classroom. If you have not yet joined Google Classroom, please do so TODAY so you don't miss out on any important details.

The 8th grade volleyball girls traveled to Goddard and the match of the night had to be the C team. But we will get to that later. The A team played some decent volleyball but the Vikings kept scrapping and clawing for every loose ball refusing to let the ball hit. It wasn't until the 2nd game when the girls got going with some thundering attacks once again by Megan B. The girls were able to fight off the rust and the scrappy opponent as they won in 2 games.
The B girls came out energized and ready to take down Goddard. This energy allowed the girls to pull out a victory in the first game. The Vikings pushed back during the 2nd game as the girls started to play the style of volleyball of the Vikings. This meant that Goddard pulled out the win in the second game. The girls came out of the gate strong in the 3rd game with clutch serves from Nina K and Elyssa J. But Goddard would not be contained as they pulled out the upset. The B girls will look for revenge as they get to face the same time on Thursday afternoon.
The C girls struggled in the first game as they once again did not have consistent serves and struggled to pass. But the girls in the 2nd game served much better and passed well enough to win the 2nd game. So it came down to the 3rd game to see if the girls could pull out their 1st win of the season. It was without question the clutch serves of Evelyn J and Linnea P that started off the game on the right foot. But it was the consistent passing that sealed the win for the girls as they got their first W just in time to carry the positive energy into the tournament this afternoon. Please come over to Newton this afternoon to support the C girls or stop into our gym on Thursday afternoon to watch the A & B girls play the 1st round of the tournament.

As hard as they tried, none of the 7th grade girls volleyball teams were able to stop the Newton Knights. The A team won their first game, but fell just a few points short in the 2nd and 3rd game. Lakyn W was a great all around player with her passing, serving and communication on the court.
The B team, try as they might, was defeated in two games with scores of 14-21 and 6-21.
The C team came close in both games, but had a hard time returning serves from Newton.
A big thanks to all the fans that cheered us on in the gym yesterday! We hope to see you again next Wednesday when the girls take on the Goddard Vikings!

The 8th grade girls volleyball teams traveled over to Newton on Wednesday afternoon and wow you should have seen the A girls. In the first game the girls played almost flawlessly. And the attacks of Megan B were a thing of beauty. The true driving force for both games had to be the amazing sets from Ellen M and Kylee C. The great team work and fantastic sets allowed the girls to win in 2 easy games.
The B girls came out ready to go from the start and took a slight lead in game 1. It became a back and forth affair as the girls could not get the passes to go where they wanted. As a result the girls struggled and lost in a tight game. The 2nd game once again saw the girls go back and forth at the start. Only to once again have their passes let them down and so they lost in 2 games.
The C girls played some impressive volleyball in game 1. They were lead by the clutch serves of Alyssa R. as she got 10 straight points for the team. That was too much for Newton to overcome as the girls won the 1st game. Newton came out in game 2 determined to get it back. And they did just that.So the girls had to play a 3rd and decisive game. The girls struggled to pass early in the game, but they fought back to tie the score 9-9. But Newton had bumps that were too good as they pulled on the win 12-15 in the 3rd game.
Please come over to Goddard on Monday afternoon to support the girls.

The 8th grade girls volleyball teams took on a tough Options team. The Black C team started off well but their passing let them down in a close first game. The 2nd game was difficult from the beginning as the girls struggled to pass once again as well as had trouble serving. Without both of these things working it was almost impossible to get a win against any opponent, especially a solid Options squad.
The Maroon team looked better from the word go. They had great serves from Anessa J, De M and Nora C. Along with some clutch bumps from Simone T. You should have seen when the girls had 2 consecutive points where they had 3 contacts on the ball that ended with over hand hits. But the girls could not overcome the clutch bumping from Options as they lost in 2 very close games.
Come over to Newton on Wednesday to support the girls as they take on the Knights.

Tonight is this year’s first Dining for Dollars at Chipotle. Come in to the Chipotle on University tonight between 5:00 and 9:00 and tell the cashier that you’re supporting Powell. 33% of the proceeds will be donated to our school.

In 7th grade girls volleyball teams took on Euclid last night. The A team had first game jitters and their nerves got the best of them, losing the first game 11-21 and making a comeback in game two only to lose 17-21. Julia H and Lakyn led the team in serves.

Annie "the Ace" Allen led the B team to victory serving a total of 15 points! Breeze S was an all around great player with serves and moves on the court.

On the C team, Hannah H's serving could not be stopped! C team won their match 2-0. The team spirit was unbelievable in the Euclid gym with all team members cheering each other on. Come watch them play next Wednesday here in our Powell gym!

Student Council members, our first meeting of the year will be this Wednesday, September 18 in room 3040. See you then.

Your 8th grade volleyball players continued a successful season as they took on the Euclid Falcons for the second time in less than a week. The A girls passed much better than last game and were rewarded with multiple overhand attacks. They found themselves in a little bit of a hole at the tail end of each game. But some clutch serves from Megan B, Ellen M and Kylee C helped to carry the team to victory in 2 games.
The B girls found themselves up against an opponent who could serve very well once again. The girls fought off some of those serves with great hustle and good passes. Along with that girls are beginning to figure out how to get 3 hits. Elyssa J was a passing machine, Scarlett R and Nina K were hitting machines while all 4 setters looked great. But the girls could not overcome the serves of Euclid as they lost in 2 tight games.
The C girls also found themselves up against a great serving opponent. The girls energy and excitement were a little lacking as Euclid used their great serves to take down the girls in 2 games. Come out on Wednesday to support the girls as they take on Goddard.

Your 8th grade volleyball pumas did a great job of representing Powell as they traveled over to Euclid. The A girls started things off by winning the first game in convincing fashion as Ellen M. served 8 straight points to cap off the game. The second game saw the girls struggle to pass the tough serves of Euclid as the fell by 4. But the girls fought off the serves as they rallied for the win in the 3rd game by 3 points.
The B girls also looked good in their first game as they won by 5. The girls struggled to handle the Euclid serves as they lost convincingly in game 2. The 3rd and decisive game saw the girls pass much better as Karter D and Bella S had some great passes off very difficult serves. As well as having great passes the girls also got some clutch sets from Marie V which allowed Scarlet R to get 2 impressive spikes.
The C girls also faced some very good serves from Euclid. The girls got down early but fought their way back only to lose each game by about 6 points. The C girls were led by some impressive serves from Vicki H, Simone T and Nora C.
Please come out on Monday after school to watch the girls once again take on the Falcons here in our gym.
