Last night the 7th-grade boys basketball team went to Goddard to take on the Vikings. The A team played well together but started slowly in the first half. The guys completely turned it around in the second half and put strong pressure on Goddard, allowing only 6 points in the second half. This was due to excellent defensive play by the whole team but some standouts include Lukas Crozier, Elic Daughters, and Dylan Escorcia. Dylan also led the team in scoring with his strong 3-pint shooting. The crowd could feel the momentum turning as the Pumas got within 2 points for the last 19 seconds of the game. With selfless play, good passing, and rebounding, Caleb Meier was able to shoot and drain a buzzer-beating 3-pointer to win the game for Powell. It was exciting to watch the team play some of their best ball of the season.

The B team also had a very close game against the Vikings. The team had a tough defense, led by Chase Burton and Ren Nelson, smart passing from Liam Block, and excellent overall play in the paint by Osteen Pelenkahu and Quintin Vick. This game also came down to the last seconds in the second half but the Vikings were able to come away with a close one-point win.

The C team continued to grow and be challenged as they played their second game of the season. The speed and intensity of the games are difficult to replicate in practice so they offer excellent opportunities for players to manage their emotions and focus on their fundamentals. Some standout performances include Noah Endlich's defensive play, a steal by Jon Morris, and Gabe Bland's hustle.
It was a joy for the coaches to see the progress made by players last night, at all levels, and we are proud that you represented Powell well. Our game last week against Euclid was canceled because of the snow day. Fortunately, it has been rescheduled so please come join us at Euclid next Wednesday and help support the teams as they play their final games of the season.

Hey, Pumas! Today is the semifinals for your 8th-grade boys basketball team! Come show your support this afternoon and fill the gym as we welcome the Euclid Falcons for A and B semifinals.
