Thursday, April 6th
Good morning! This is a reminder for the PRIDE leaders I spoke with yesterday at lunch that this evening is PARENT NIGHT for incoming 6th graders and their families. Please arrive at Powell around 5:30 and be ready to give a tour at 6:00 pm. And remember to wear your Pride tee shirt! Thank you!
If you like tennis or want to learn how to play tennis then come to tennis club and play 'Tennis with Coach Ennis!' Tennis club starts TODAY after school from 4 pm-5 pm at the tennis courts. Starting next week until the end of the school year, the Tennis Club will meet every Tuesday and Thursday from 4-5. If you have a racquet please bring it. If you don't have a racquet but would still like to join, I will have a few racquets available to borrow Don’t forget to wear appropriate shoes - tennis in crocs or flip-flops is tricky. If you have any questions please speak with Mr. Ennis in room 3068. Hope to see you there!
Students, next week is CMAS testing week. Teachers are sharing the schedule and important information about this state testing. The Colorado Measures of Academic Success is an opportunity to show what you know and do your best. No cell phones or smart watches are allowed during the test. These need to be in your locker or left at home
Good luck to our 8th grade girls volleyball teams today as they travel to take on the Euclid Falcons.
The next meeting of the Magic: The Gathering Club will be next Monday, April 10. All experience levels, different deck types and new players are always welcome! We will meet in Mrs. Blake's room, 1068. Set your deck, prepare your strategy, and join us for some fun competition!
The 7th grade girls volleyball teams took on the Goddard Vikings last night at Powell. While the A team had an over 90% serve accuracy and tried to set up a lot of great plays, they were unable to walk away with the win. Cora Amann showed up to the court with great serves and sets, Rene Schell was moving all over the court and almost saved a play with a fantastic foot maneuver, but all in all, the match didn't land in our favor. The girls improved a lot this season and your coaches are impressed with your spirit and determination.
The B battled it out with the Vikings in a 3 game match. The first game proved successful with a lot of great plays being set up and good spirit on the court. The second game was a loss- not in spirit or effort, but the Vikings won by just 4 points. The Pumas were able to pull off the victory in a close 3rd game, winning by just the 2 points they needed for the match. Sopjie Tober was the match MVP with solid serving- including the match winning points. B team players really improved this season in skill and technique and were a pleasure to watch throughout the three games. Your coaches had a great time coaching you and seeing your improvements!
The C team also went to three games that unfortunately ended in a match loss. Game time jitters got in the way the first game with many missed serves. A HUGE shout out to Jayda Brown, who has been working so hard on her serving technique. In 2 games Jayda was our number one scorer with 6 points- way to go Jayda! The second game we rallied back- getting our serves over the net and making some other great plays on the court. In the last game, we just couldn't make things happen and the Vikings game back strong for the win. C team players- you came to play each and every day and have shown your coaches that you work hard and never give up. It was a joy to be your coach!
If you didn't return your jersey last night, please get it to Ms. Bowlen ASAP. And players, don't forget the post season celebration in room 1067 after school on Tuesday, April 11.
Yesterday in CORE Plus, you talked about Puma Pride. As Powell Pumas, we display Puma Pride and we stand up for each other. We do this by showing respect to everyone in our school community. We stand up for and do the right thing for all Pumas. Pumas are invited to show their Puma Pride by signing the Banner “Pumas Stand Up for ALL Pumas” during lunch today and tomorrow.
