Day 5: Positive Self-Talk & Grounding

Remember, you are capable! Use positive self-talk throughout the day: "I can do this!" If you feel stressed during the test, try the 5-4-3-2-1 grounding technique: Name 5 things you can see, 4 things you can touch, 3 things you can hear, 2 things you can smell, and 1 thing you can taste. This helps you stay calm and focused.

Pumas, please do your part to keep our school looking nice. Any forms of vandalism to the restrooms or otherwise take away from the quality of our building and consequences for those actions will be swift. Thank you for helping make Powell a great place to be.

8th grade boys interested in playing on Powell’s volleyball team - your season starts on Monday!  Please bring your signed permission slips to Mrs. Marshall before practice begins.  We will see you in the gym after school on Monday!

Good luck to our 8th grade A and B volleyball teams today as they play their semifinal matches against Goddard after school. Let’s fill the stands!.

Day 4: Test Anxiety Strategies

If you come across a question you don't know, don’t panic! Flag it and move on, but remember to come back to it later. Take a moment to carefully read the instructions before starting the test. Rushing can make things more stressful. Also, avoid comparing your progress with others—it’s okay to work at your own pace!

The perfect way to get some energy out after a long day of testing is to come to Soccer Club on the field right after school! The weather is awesome - see you there!

Wednesday, April 9th

 Apr 9, 2025

Day 3: Breathing for Relaxation

Start your day with a calming breath exercise: Try the 3-4-5 breath. Inhale for 3 seconds, hold for 4 seconds, and exhale for 5 seconds. This helps calm your body and mind by activating the part of your nervous system that promotes relaxation. Use it before your test, when you start, and even in the middle if you need a moment to reset!

Last night our 8th grade volleyball C team played in their semi-finals! They began the night playing Newton ending in a win and moving on to another game against Options. The girls played so well, moved to the ball, killed their serves, and got a second win of the night sending them to the championship game this weekend at Powell!! Congratulations C team. You deserve this! Good luck this weekend!

Tuesday, April 8th

 Apr 8, 2025

Good luck to our 8th grade volleyball team C team today as they begin the district tournament with semifinals at Newton. Let’s go Pumas!

This week is National School Library Week. We all want to thank our Librarian Michael Benton for being a vital part of our school. Please take a moment when you see Michael to say thank you for all that he does to keep Powell running smoothly.

Day 2: The Power of Sleep

Preparing the night before is just as important as studying! Make sure you get a good night's sleep. A well-rested brain works better, helps you think more clearly, and improves your memory. Just like a phone needs recharging, your brain needs rest to perform its best during the test.

This is also National Assistant Principal week of appreciation. A huge shout out to Ms.. Nath and Mr. Meier for their hard work, dedication and passion for making Powell an amazing school for both students and staff. We appreciate you both.

Our 7th grade volleyball teams ended their season strong last night! Each team showed immense improvement from when we started just a few short weeks ago. Our A team played their best game of the year led by Kendyl Miller’s serving and hustling. They were an extremely positive group that encouraged each other through a close loss. Our B team showed out but came up just short in a 27-29 second set. Vicky Allen and Isla Robinson were all over the court. Our C team lost in 3 very close sets. Mirabai Lux had a fantastic all around game and Daisy Smith came up clutch when we needed it. Thanks for a great season!

B team had 2 really close sets, but unfortunately ended in a loss. Whitney Hester had some really smart plays at the net and great serves. Sami Stephan also had some great digs that helped out the team.

C team won in 2 sets and played one of their best games of the season! All girls are continuing to improve every week. Adaline Kacinski really served it up last night, getting our team a total of 9 points just from her serve alone. Avery Downing also played well at the net, making it difficult for Newton to return the ball.
