"Your Powell 6th grade Wrestling Team had their first festival of the season last night at Euclid and looked great! Every athlete on our team competed with pride and showed effort and determination. In total, we won 10 matches and lost only six, with 7 of our 10 wins coming by pin. Athletes winning matches last night were Josh Denton and Tucker Emrie, with Braedon Collins winning two matches. Finally, the following wrestlers pinned two separate people each: Jack Bednorz, Andreas Bonvencino, and Myles Horne. Wonderful first meet team!"
Our next Battle of the Books Tutorial will be on Friday! We will be creating our teams and playing our first practice rounds. Thanks to those of you who have turned in your permission slips and created your first five questions.
If you have not done these things, please turn in your permission slip and submit your five questions for the book you read on the form in the Battle of the Books Google Classroom as soon as possible.
If you have any questions, please see Mrs. Jordan or Mrs. Calkins. We can’t wait to battle with you on Friday!

The Thespian troupe will meet on the stage tomorrow. We will be picking our ThesCon pieces and working towards competition. If you are a "fun seeker" and not competing at ThesCon, you should not join us this Thursday. Again, Thespian troupe is selecting their ThesCon pieces this Thursday!
"Your Powell 7th and 8th grade Wrestling Team competed against a small, but talented Goddard Viking team. We won 15 (most all by pins) and lost 13. They had two buzz saws that accounted for 7 of our loses though. All of our team wrestled with fire in their bellies, and we showed a lot of growth. There were too many great matches to give everyone a shout out, but a few highlights were Marshall Pool with a solid pin over a huge opponent, Taj Muhammad for a decisive pin in his first match, Devin Vigil for pinning two different opponents, and Kaiden Vaughn for pinning a beast that had beaten three other members of our team. Great showing people!"
Our 8th grade girls basketball teams played their first games of the season last night against Goddard Middle School. Our A team dominated the game from the opening possession and kept the pressure on the entire game. As a team they had 25 steals, 5 of those from Shay Wilcox. Marley Render led the team with 12 points and 7 rebounds. Kalhea (Ka-lay-uh) Jordan added 6 points, 6 steals and a handful of rebounds for our Pumas. Awesome start to the season A team!
Our B team had a slower start, but turned up the heat in the second half led by Grace Erickson's 10 points and 5 rebounds. Abby Ballas showed great defense and Kaydi Hayes-Brown worked hard for several rebounds, which helped energize our team. It was a very exciting final few minutes, but our Pumas came up one basket short. Amazing effort ladies!

Our NJHS organization had 4 students run for officer positions and they did an awesome job with their speeches this week. Congratulations to our new NJHS President, Grant Brandberg and our NJHS Secretary Dani Girouard. Please know that there are many more leadership opportunities coming up in which we will need additional leadership roles filled for various projects throughout the year. Please continue to watch Google Classroom for upcoming opportunities for service hours, including the Gaskill Fall Festival next weekend.
Hey Pumas, have you ever thought you turned in an assignment, only to find it in your backpack days later? Well, teachers make the same mistake, so the lesson is, turn in the assignment...it's still important! This announcement was written after the Puma Prowl on Monday, ready to be read on Tuesday morning to congratulate our winners, and all runners, and here we are reading it to you today. Yep, Ms. Bowlen failed at sending the email and just realized it. So, without further adieu...
Monday was the perfect day to run the 26th Annual Puma Prowl! Students came with fun & positive attitudes to make this yet another great Prowl! Thanks so much to our amazing PTO, especially Staci Usagani, & many parent & staff volunteers that helped to keep this Powell tradition going strong. We couldn’t have done this run without you! Way to go and YAY TEAM PUMAS!!
