They were one of 7 middle school teams from across Colorado and Oklahoma. The challenge was to create a Music Video based on a piece of literature, including original Music and Lyrics, and incorporating the use of video production techniques. The team has been invited to compete in the global tournament this summer. The Powell team members are Kiernan Luther and Owen Talley.

Today is Day of Silence. Day of Silence is a national student-led demonstration where LGBTQ students and allies all around the country—and the world—take a vow of silence to protest the harmful effects of harassment and discrimination of LGBTQ people in schools. This harassment in schools may be more common than you think: 9 out of 10 LGBTQ students experience it nationally. You may have classmates who choose to participate in remaining silent for the day. Please encourage these students today by being nice, supportive, and respectful, though this is a Powell CORE value that should be practiced daily!

April brings National Poetry Month and we are recognizing some memorable poems during our announcements. Enjoy today's poem “The Voice” by Shel Silverstein.

There is a voice inside of you
That whispers all day long,
“I feel that this is right for me,
I know that this is wrong.”
No teacher, preacher, parent, friend
or wise man can decide
what’s right for you - just listen to
the voice that speaks inside.
