 Today is White Cane Awareness Day! White Cane Awareness day is a special day to celebrate the white cane and those who use it. A white cane is a tool that people with visual impairments use to get around. It is a long stick that is mostly white and it is red at the end with a grip at the top. White Cane Awareness Day is celebrated on October 15th each year.

Yesterday was the perfect day to run the 27th Annual Puma Prowl! Students came with fun & positive attitudes to make this yet another great Prowl! Thanks so much to our amazing PTO, especially Katie Perez & Erin Taylor for all the behind the scenes work. A ton of thanks to the many parent & staff volunteers that helped to keep this Powell tradition going strong. We couldn’t do this run without you! Way to go and YAY TEAM PUMAS!!

Today is the final day to purchase tickets for a chance to win a fantastic prize in the Annual Teacher Drawing.  Are you hoping to plan and teach a class with Mrs. Jordan or help Mr. Folk teach a PE class for a day?  Be sure to enter today at lunch!  We want to raise a lot of money to help support Arapahoe High School’s Make a Wish Campaign.

Students, due to the Puma Prowell taking place this afternoon, there will be no homework club meeting today, Monday, October 6th.  If you are not taking part in the Puma Prowell, please make sure you have a way home after school today.

 You incredible PUMAS,  your generosity raised $1,777 for Arapahoe High Schools Make a Wish week.  You beat last year's record.  You will change the life of one young person that Araphoe will select in the spring.  Way to go Pumas.  For a list of winners of the staff drawing, please see the posters outside the main office and in the cafeteria.

The Puma Prowl is a week away! What is the Puma Prowl you say? Well, it's a 1.25 mile fun run that starts on the upper grass field that winds around Powell and Puma Park with a finish at the far end of the upper field! Not only is it a great workout, at the end you will be rewarded with a raffle ticket for a chance to win a gift card, candy or Gatorade! The late/activity bus will be there to take you home by the time the raffle is complete. Come join us and let's make this the biggest Prowl ever! Family is welcome to run or cheer you on, but only Powell students can enter the raffle! See you next Monday, Oct 7th from 3:45-4:45!

The 8th grade track district tournament was last night at Newton. Our Powell girls put in an impressive effort and ended up with a 3rd place finish. The boys managed to pull through on a very close victory to become district champions for the 6th consecutive year. Congratulations to our 8th grade boys track team!

The 7th Grade track team had their last meet of the season yesterday. The boys defeated Newton by a score of 87-30, including Cam Abbey setting the school record for High Jump! The girls fell just short in a hard fought match. Just a reminder, jersey turn in will be during 7th Grade Lunch in the Media Center on Monday, September 30th.

Today is the day you have all been waiting for! Teams will be kickin’ it old school tonight for a little competition, fun and exercise during our 8th Annual Kickball Tournament. After school, bring your backpack out, place it under the trees on the hill by the blacktop, and get your team gathered up to listen to instructions from Mr.Meier. If you’re not playing, we hope you still hang out to enjoy the good vibes and food from the food trucks. Good luck and have a great time! Remember, sportsmanship is key to everyone enjoying this annual tradition.

There is NO TSA today after school. Good luck to members participating in the Kickball Tournament! Our next meeting will be on October 3. All forms and fees will be due at this time. We will be finalizing team and individual events at the next meeting.

Congratulations to the 7th Grade Track team as they defeated Goddard in yesterday’s meet. The boys team won by a large margin with a score of 80-33! The girls team had a hard fought win with a score of 55-51. Awesome job guys! Today will be our last practice of the year.

The 8th grade home track meet against Goddard was a success! Both boy’s and girl’s teams came out victorious, with girls leading 51 to 64 and boys 31 to 86. Out of 13 events, Powell girls  secured first place in 9 events and for the boys,  11 events.  It was a fantastic meet with hard work and perseverance!  We hope to see you at the next home meet against Newton on Wednesday the 18th.

Kickball teams, packets are due to Mrs. Durbin in the main office by next Tuesday the 17th. Currently we only have 10 teams who have committed. Please organize your team and submit your paperwork. 

The 7th Grade Track Team had their first meet yesterday, hosting Euclid. The boys team came away with a huge win, defeating Euclid 77-39! Good job guys! The girls team had an extremely close meet and barely fell short, 57-65. The meet was extremely close until the end. Our next meet is on Monday, September 16th at Goddard.

Hooray for Fall weather! Makes me think of October & our Sources of Strength Campaign - Trusted Adults! Students get excited to either play kickball, cheer on, or hang out to play some backyard games of ladder golf, cornhole, or giant Jenga with your Trusted Adult(s)! There will be plenty of fun for everyone & food trucks serving up yummy variations of hot dogs and churros! It is only 9 days away!

Our 8th grade track team had their first meet of the year last night. They traveled to Euclid and had a very close meet. The boys won by a score of 61-56, dominating the field events to carry them to a victory. The girls team ended up tying by a score of 58-58. Very impressive performances in relays kept it very close. Come support our track team next week as we take on Goddard here at Powell on Wednesday.

Lastly, teachers and students: There is an adorable duck family that has taken to nesting in the small garden on the east side of the school. The lovely mama duck has eggs in a nest right up against the school and is dutifully trying to keep those little ones safe and get them ready to hatch. The dad is also on guard in the mornings.

The last fitness final on Friday was a barn burner. The Partner Pacer was an exciting competition with Caden Muller & Cam Carnes running 191 lines for the boys. Katie Usagani & Erin Dickes ran 146 lines for the girls' competition, and in the co-ed competition, the winners were Gemma Strouse & Devin Vigil with 154 lines. Great job to all who participated in this year's Fitness Finals! Go Pumas!

The Mile Fitness Finalists came to burn up the track this past Friday! 16 of the 18 runners crushed their own qualifying times! Last night the boys volleyball club traveled to Cimarron Middle School to play games against 2 teams!
The boys walked away with one win and one loss in 3 sets. Even when they got down, they didn’t give up. With people being thrown in when the team needed a change, they adjusted and made it work. Great job boys! Good luck against your parents tonight!!!

Congratulations to all of our Timed Run Fitness Final runners who competed last Friday. We had a ton of PRs and two school records.
In 8th grade, Caden Muller tied Maddox Mangers from last year with 13.5 laps and Erin Dickes beat the record of 10.5 (Alexa LeDuff & Cecelie Franklin) with an astounding 10.75! Two new school records!
In 7th grade, our winners were Henry Turner with 12 laps and Olivia Millner-Calvo with 10 laps. Our 6th grade champs were Melissa Stone with 9.25 laps and Silas Folk with 12.25 laps.

On Friday our boys volleyball club played 3 teams, and took 3 wins with it!
Each player put their all out on the court with consistent communication, determination, and lots of fun! The boys really zoned in and are improving every time they play.

Our two Powell teams took home a 1st place trophy and a 3rd place trophy at the District Battle of the Books competition at Littleton Prep on Thursday. All competitors represented Powell in a way to make us all proud to be a Puma! After a tough lightning round to break a tie, winning the 3rd place trophy, was the. Bookworms team led by captain, Jackson Machado, including Shaun O'Donnell, David Abiri, Evelyn Preisinger, and Sadie Vick.

Congratulations to the District-wide, 1st place winning team Bookworms, Jr! This team was led by captain, Ellie Milbrath, and included Cleo Hebener-Moyer, Emme Smith, Delilah Fisbeck, and Olivia Simpson. This team successfully scored the highest points by answering challenging questions in all 3 rounds of competition to capture the 1st place championship.

Please congratulate each of them when you see them for their months of preparation and great teamwork to earn this honor.

Last night our 8th grade boys volleyball teams played in their first official games and both teams cooked! Our 1st team won in 3 sets and showed a lot of strength in our serves and discipline in attempting 3 hits every time. Our 2nd team dominated in 2 sets with every player contributing. Come out this Friday to catch our volleyball club as they play in a round robin match up against 3 other schools.

The Student Council meeting is canceled for tomorrow, we will be meeting this Friday during Core Plus tutorials in room 3040.

Hey Pumas! I'm Braedan Longoria, your Thespian Troupe publicist. To start off, a HUGE thank you to everyone that showed up last night! We hope you enjoyed our musical, Dear Edwina. Tonight will be our second night of our musical. It will be hosted in the cafetorium and by our Thespian Troupe. Admission as always is free, but bring the money for some good snacks for intermission. All money will be given to our Thespian Troupe to make better plays and musicals in the future. Be at the cafetorium by 7pm tonight. If you can't make it tonight, don't worry! We still have one more night of show this Saturday, or tomorrow, at the same time. We hope to see you there!

Good morning Powell! This is Braedan Longoria, your Thespian Troupe publicist. Tonight is the night! What is tonight some might wonder? Tonight is show night for our musical Dear Edwina. That's right! We are so excited to host you tonight for a story of happiness and strength. Admission is free but bring money for concessions! For the Fitness Finals this week, the Plank finals competitors were strong and steady! Shout out and Congrats to our winners - Katie Usagani planked for 6 minutes and 4 seconds and Aiden McCollum held a plank for an outstanding 10 minutes and 6 seconds which is now a new school record. Make sure you check the pictures of our fitness final competitors in the gym hall. Good job planksters!

A and B teams brought home awesome wins and played some really fun volleyball! Our C team brought home 4th place! All players showed the growth they’ve made this season and we are so proud of them.

Both teams fought hard and played so well. Both A and B took the games to 3 sets, but unfortunately ended the night in a loss. We are so proud of the hard work the girls have put in this season and we are excited for them to play for 3rd place this weekend. You got this, pumas!

Last night our 8th grade volleyball C team played in the semi-finals!
In their first game, they beat Newton to advance on to play Euclid later in the night. The second game unfortunately ended in a loss, but the girls fought hard! Syd Crantit led us in her serving and the rest of the team worked hard to chase after the balls!
C team will be playing for 3rd place on Saturday at the district tournament! Wish them luck!!!

Just a reminder that there will be Tennis Club today after school. Tennis Club will start today! We will meet at the tennis courts after school and play until 4:45. If you have a racquet bring it, but if you are in need of a racquet there will be extras provided. There will be a ball machine to practice your forehand or backhand and courts to play against your classmates. So come out and have fun and learn how to play.
