Hey 7th Graders!

Do you want to read the morning announcements for Powell next year?

See Mrs. Linnick in the front office to sign up for an audition during the last couple weeks of school! You’ll get a chance to try reading the announcements!

Yesterday was a fantastic way to end the school day with 2 great Mile races!! The boys started it off with 14 of 17 runners earning a PR! Merrick Zier pushed his hardest to win the race with an astounding time of 4:58, just 2 seconds shy of the record. Way to fly Zier! The ladies killed it with 11 of 15 earning their PRs, while it was a race to the finish between Olivia Simpson and Hamden Schweid. In the end, Hamden closed in and won with her best time of 6:45! Great run girls!

So much thanks to our Puma Community for coming out to cheer all of these runners on. It was truly something special.

Next Wednesday is our Thespian Troupe induction ceremony here at Powell starting at 6:30pm. All Thespians are welcome to attend! If you have previously been inducted, attended ThesCon, in a past show, or not, please join us for a night of recognition and celebration!

Day 5: Positive Self-Talk & Grounding

Remember, you are capable! Use positive self-talk throughout the day: "I can do this!" If you feel stressed during the test, try the 5-4-3-2-1 grounding technique: Name 5 things you can see, 4 things you can touch, 3 things you can hear, 2 things you can smell, and 1 thing you can taste. This helps you stay calm and focused.

Pumas, please do your part to keep our school looking nice. Any forms of vandalism to the restrooms or otherwise take away from the quality of our building and consequences for those actions will be swift. Thank you for helping make Powell a great place to be.

Day 4: Test Anxiety Strategies

If you come across a question you don't know, don’t panic! Flag it and move on, but remember to come back to it later. Take a moment to carefully read the instructions before starting the test. Rushing can make things more stressful. Also, avoid comparing your progress with others—it’s okay to work at your own pace!

The perfect way to get some energy out after a long day of testing is to come to Soccer Club on the field right after school! The weather is awesome - see you there!

Wednesday, April 9th

 Apr 9, 2025

Day 3: Breathing for Relaxation

Start your day with a calming breath exercise: Try the 3-4-5 breath. Inhale for 3 seconds, hold for 4 seconds, and exhale for 5 seconds. This helps calm your body and mind by activating the part of your nervous system that promotes relaxation. Use it before your test, when you start, and even in the middle if you need a moment to reset!

Last night our 8th grade volleyball C team played in their semi-finals! They began the night playing Newton ending in a win and moving on to another game against Options. The girls played so well, moved to the ball, killed their serves, and got a second win of the night sending them to the championship game this weekend at Powell!! Congratulations C team. You deserve this! Good luck this weekend!

Tuesday, April 8th

 Apr 8, 2025

Good luck to our 8th grade volleyball team C team today as they begin the district tournament with semifinals at Newton. Let’s go Pumas!

This week is National School Library Week. We all want to thank our Librarian Michael Benton for being a vital part of our school. Please take a moment when you see Michael to say thank you for all that he does to keep Powell running smoothly.

Day 2: The Power of Sleep

Preparing the night before is just as important as studying! Make sure you get a good night's sleep. A well-rested brain works better, helps you think more clearly, and improves your memory. Just like a phone needs recharging, your brain needs rest to perform its best during the test.

This is also National Assistant Principal week of appreciation. A huge shout out to Ms.. Nath and Mr. Meier for their hard work, dedication and passion for making Powell an amazing school for both students and staff. We appreciate you both.

Our 7th grade volleyball teams ended their season strong last night! Each team showed immense improvement from when we started just a few short weeks ago. Our A team played their best game of the year led by Kendyl Miller’s serving and hustling. They were an extremely positive group that encouraged each other through a close loss. Our B team showed out but came up just short in a 27-29 second set. Vicky Allen and Isla Robinson were all over the court. Our C team lost in 3 very close sets. Mirabai Lux had a fantastic all around game and Daisy Smith came up clutch when we needed it. Thanks for a great season!

Hi, my name is Evan. I am a member of No Place for Hate. The fifth and last commitment of the pledge says, “I will educate myself and others to raise awareness about bullying, helping to create a more inclusive and understanding community.” That means that we should all be more aware about bullying, and we should help others to be more aware to build a safe school environment for everyone! Thank you for taking the time to reflect and act on our commitments this week. If you ever need a reminder, find the paw prints by Mr. Broer’s office to read the commitments again!

Our 8th grade boys basketball teams played in their semi-final games last night at Euclid Middle School.  Our A team worked very hard, but wasn’t able to close the gap at the end of the game.  Jasiah Mora knocked down some very important free throws and Ryker Vancil and Ethan Van Gemert drained a few 3’s which all helped to keep us close.  Our A team will be playing tomorrow at 11:00 in the consolation bracket.  A big congratulations to our B team for coming up with an exciting win!  They will be playing in the Championship game this Saturday at 1:00.  Landon Franks came up with some huge rebounds and added an important basket for our team.  Come out and watch our boys teams play here at Powell tomorrow!  We play at 11:00, 12:00 and 1:00.  Good luck boys!

Hi, my name is Rose. I am a member of  No Place for Hate. The fourth commitment in the pledge is “I will do my best to speak up for myself and for others.” We should speak up when we hear people say mean things to us and especially if someone is doing it to another kid/person. Being a bystander can be just as harmful as being a bully. Take some time to reflect on a time where you were able to stand up to someone who was being unkind, think about what you did well and what you might do differently next time!

8th grade girls volleyball is starting next week!!! There will be a pre-season meeting on Friday, February 7th during 8th grade lunch in the media center! Hi, my name is Josiah. I am a member of No Place for Hate. The second commitment in the pledge says “I will be cautious in my words and actions because I don’t know the impact it will have with someone.” This statement means that our words hold value and if we say something that is unkind or hurtful to others, it could impact them not only for the day, but for the rest of their life. Take a moment to compliment a friend, peer, or staff member today!!

Last night our 8th grade boys basketball teams finished up their regular season games against Euclid Middle School.  Despite playing behind the entire game, Jacob Carey led the team in scoring with 9 points as he remained calm, consistent and aggressive every minute he played.  King Jordan and Caleb Borquez also showed strength and hustle.  Our B team played their best game of the season so far, but came up just a couple of points short.  They made smarter passes and worked more as a team which kept them close all 4 quarters.  Gray Ferrigno was on fire both offensively and defensively.  His speed and grit caused a lot of turnovers for the Falcons.  He led the team with 8 points while Justin Arnold, Kai Budler and Leo Jurbala also made important contributions.  Our C team continues to be a fun team to watch!  Their encouragement for each other is unmatched! Jackson Kennedy and Aiden Long scored big baskets which helped the team to their victory as well as a 1st place finish in regular season play!    Good luck to our C team as they travel to Euclid to play in their semi-final game today after school!

Remember that the nicer you are the safer the environment will feel. Take a moment today to check in with a friend!!

Our 8th grade boys basketball teams played against our rivals at Newton Middle School.  Our A and B teams struggled to find their rhythm and both came up on the losing side of the game.  Landon Syers was calm and composed throughout the game.  Jacob Carey worked hard defensively, never giving up.  For our B team, Kai Budler gave a strong effort on offense and defense and Blake Matney played smart and consistent basketball.  Our C team started out strong and never looked back.  This is the most positive, team-focused and encouraging group of boys.  They continue to get better, individually and as a team, each game.  Dylan Renner and Tommy Lindig are a dynamic duo in the backcourt and Corbin Weil lead the team in points, rebounds and steals.
