Nash McMonigle and Merrick Franks led the A team with 10 points each while Cole Troupe crashed the boards to grab 6 rebounds. The whole team played tough defense and got a combined 20 steals and won the game 50-13. Fantastic start to the season A team.
Our B team turned up the heat in the second half to beat Goddard 22-6. Matthew Reynolds scored a team high 10 points while Kaiden Vaughn was a defensive beast. His ability to be everywhere on the court led to several steals and rebounds. Cayden Whitney brought a spark to the offense and had two baskets at key moments of the game.
Our C team completed the sweep with their commanding victory. Some highlights include Caleb Wright's back to back 3 pointers, Henry Smith's 5 steals, Gabe Mendoza's amazing poise and Christian Flores dominating the rebounds.

All 20 of our thespians performed well and represented Powell in a positive way, a double superior is the highest rating an actor can receive. So here are our top results: our sixth-grade musical group made up of Maddie Hathaway, Annalicia Hernandez, Mila Derby and Aubrie Snook earned an Excellent/Superior rating, an 8th grader named Addie Jones also earned an Excellent/Superior rating, but our highest in the troupe and highest score you can earn with a double superior goes to a 7th grader......Ellie Millbrath! The CORE Plus who has the most points after CORE+ on Friday will earn the championship and a wonderful CORE Plus prize for your class the following week. Listen up all you 7th graders. Did you hear how amazing this year's Washington DC trip was? Well if not, I am here to tell you it was a blast and the students learned so much about our nation's history. If you are interested in attending this same trip when you are in 8th grade then come to Powell's cafeteria on November 29th at 6:00 PM to get some details about the registration process. We'll see you there.
Our 8th grade girls traveled to Euclid for their final regular season basketball games last night. Our A team started off strong with a basket by Marley Render in the first 5 seconds! We played smart, aggressive and completely in control the entire game. The Jordan sisters dominated the boards, Whitney Foulger connected several awesome passes and Izzie Usagani has really found her groove. These girls work so well as a team and are ready for the district tournament!
Our B team keeps showing tremendous growth each time we play. The amount of skill and confidence that each girl has developed this season is outstanding. Isabel McKaskle and Peyton Thorson contend for every rebound, Grace Erickson is getting the ball to her teammates and Sa'Rya Stone, Abby Ballas and Jordan Whipple have become so good at anticipating passes and making steals. We are also looking forward to the district tournament.
A big thank you to everyone who joined us last night for the 6th annual chili cook off. Third Place went to Gabe Mendoza with Gabe's Winning Chili. Second place went to the Elstun 6 with Papa's World Famous Green Chili. First place went to TJ Chavers with Double C Chili. Congratulations to all three winners!
Pumas you are amazing! Thank you to all who participated in our can food drive. We collected 803 cans! Your kindness and generosity will help those in need this holiday season.

YOUR PUMA Varsity wrestling team faced off against the other three middle schools yesterday afternoon at the District Tournament and it was a thrilling evening of combat sport. Lightest to heaviest, our athletes battled through pain like warriors and fought with grit. We pulled off a couple upsets, but unfortunately, lost the trophy to Newton by just 12 points. Though we didn't reach our goal, coaches Ennis and Sprague are very proud of each and every athlete on the team. We showed great sportsmanship and respect, and our athletes can honestly walk off the mat with pride in their hearts and perhaps a little blood on their singlets.
Finishing in 3rd place last night were:
Devin Vigil, Andrew Garduza, Evan Hansen, Neil Bridgewater,
Eli Sieck, and Taj Muhammad
Finishing in 2nd place were:
Grayson Ferrigno, Henry Smith, Ryder Wallace, Ryker Vancil, Riley Endlich, and James Clevenger
Finally, I am very pleased to announce that the following athletes are DISTRICT CHAMPIONS in their weight classes:
Weston Sprague, Kaiden Vaughn, and Marshall Pool
Congratulations on a great season! Our end-of-season party will be Thursday the 30th after school.

Last night our 8th grade girls hosted some very good Newton basketball teams. Our A team did a lot of things very well! Kalyhea (ka-lee-uh) Jordan worked super hard to grab several rebounds and was able to drive to the basket and score multiple times. Izzy Usagani has such a great ability to keep calm when faced with pressure, her composure was huge for Powell. Sara Kasim continues to work hard every time she is on the court and adds a lot of value to our team. Great effort Pumas!
Our B team has improved with every game they play. We had more rebounds last night than any of our games so far. Every player on our team got at least one rebound! Peyton Thorson and Isabel McKaskle were strong defenders down low and Jordan Whipple stole the ball several times. Grace Erickson showed great leadership for our Pumas as she organized and encouraged our team. Way to play hard to the very last buzzer ladies!
We have a special birthday today. Nov 10 is the United Stated Marine Corp birthday. Born out of a tavern in Philadelphia during the American Revolutionary War, the Marine Corp is now 248 years old. All Marines celebrate this birthday and we have a retired Marine in our building everyday named Officer Fisher. If you see Officer Fisher today be sure to wish that Marine a Happy Birthday!

The 6th annual Chili Cook off is a friendly and tasty competition for all of Pumas to enjoy! Please join us on November 16th in the cafeteria from 5:30-7pm for some great comfort food and a chance to connect with our wonderful Powell community. Let’s feel & show the gratitude of those involved, our loved ones and our community of Pumas!
Our 8th grade girls A team deserves a shout out for their amazing effort Wednesdaynight against a very good Newton team. Our Pumas showed so much determination and teamwork and everyone had a super positive attitude. Whitney Foulger did an awesome job pushing the pace which resulted in several baskets. When we got the ball to Kalyhea (Ka-lee-uh) Jordan, her opponents couldn't stop her! Syd Carantit is relentless on defense and was responsible for several steals and turnovers. Even though we came up on the losing side yesterday, we are already excited for another chance at them next week!
YOUR puma Wrestling had our final dual meet of the season last night at Newton, and folks.... it was a tough night. We don't have the individual results yet, but we certainly encountered some really tough opponents. Our team competed with pride and gave all of their might in each match, but we learned some painful lessons about technique and preparedness. That being said, we have a team full of BEASTS and Coaches Ennis and Sprague know we will rally and be ready to face these same athletes again at our district tournament in eleven days.
Congratulations to our 8th grade girls A team for their commanding victory over Goddard last night. We showed composure, discipline and skill the entire game. Izzy Usagani is a natural leader on the court. She scored 10 points, played tough defense and instinctively knew where she always needed to be. Lilly Shurtleff was such a steady and valuable player on the court and made a difference every minute that she was in. And can we talk about Syd Carantit and all the steals she gets each game? She had 5 in the first half alone! Great game Pumas!
Our B team showed a ton of growth from their first game. We tried new formations and positions and our Pumas adapted so well. Peyton Thorson played great defense and caused a number of turnovers for Goddard. Gehna (ga-hen-a) Kanchan is such a hustler! She worked so hard the entire game! Kaitlin Canas made a huge difference with her rebounding and stopped several shots. Our B team never gave up and we are so proud of them!
Thank you to everyone who attended last night's talent show. We had over 180 people attend and our audience was extremely supportive and engaged with every act. Way to be CORE minded! I also want to cngratualte all those talented Pumas for being brave as you stepped out on that stage last night. The Thespian Trpoupe is so proud of:

"Your Powell 7th and 8th grade Wrestling Team competed against a small, but talented Goddard Viking team. We won 15 (most all by pins) and lost 13. They had two buzz saws that accounted for 7 of our loses though. All of our team wrestled with fire in their bellies, and we showed a lot of growth. There were too many great matches to give everyone a shout out, but a few highlights were Marshall Pool with a solid pin over a huge opponent, Taj Muhammad for a decisive pin in his first match, Devin Vigil for pinning two different opponents, and Kaiden Vaughn for pinning a beast that had beaten three other members of our team. Great showing people!"
Our 8th grade girls basketball teams played their first games of the season last night against Goddard Middle School. Our A team dominated the game from the opening possession and kept the pressure on the entire game. As a team they had 25 steals, 5 of those from Shay Wilcox. Marley Render led the team with 12 points and 7 rebounds. Kalhea (Ka-lay-uh) Jordan added 6 points, 6 steals and a handful of rebounds for our Pumas. Awesome start to the season A team!
Our B team had a slower start, but turned up the heat in the second half led by Grace Erickson's 10 points and 5 rebounds. Abby Ballas showed great defense and Kaydi Hayes-Brown worked hard for several rebounds, which helped energize our team. It was a very exciting final few minutes, but our Pumas came up one basket short. Amazing effort ladies!

"We had our final 8th grade track dual meet of the season on Tuesday and the boys continued their winning ways, beating the Knights from Newton by almost 40 points. Not only did Caden Muller and Cuan Snyman win every event they were entered in, but our depth is really starting to show! Cole Troupe got first place in shot put by over 6 feet! Grant Brandburg ran like a gazelle and helped propel his relay teams to two first and one second place finishes, and Ethan Hunt won a remarkable race in the final 400 leg of the Medley relays, edging out a crazy fast runner in the last few strides. We head to the district championships next week on Wednesday at LPS stadium and have a great chance to win it all again! Please come and support us!"

Whether you are playing in the tournament, cheering a friend on, or enjoying a beautiful day outside with some lawn games and fun social time, you are feeding your soul with healthy options! We hope to see you on Sept 21st after school!
SAGA club will be starting Wednesday, September 13th! SAGA stands for Sexuality and Gender Alliance and any student is welcome to join! Please reach out to Ms. Perry or Mrs. Gustafson with any questions.
Our Puma ladies ran an amazing track meet yesterday securing our first win of the season. Dominating the track was Maddie Pepe placing first in hurdles, 400 meter run and anchoring the medley relay team of Kalhea, Jordan, Kalyhea Jordan and Avyln Weathers. Bringing in solid first place finishes in field events were Harriet Jewell
In high jump, Izzy Herndon in long jump, and Coco Klein in discus. Stepping up for the team to secure a place in the 800 meter run was Josie Winger. Great job athletes! Join us next Tuesday as the Puma s take on Euclid middle school at our first away meet.
OUR Puma 8th Grade Boys Track team gained its second victory yesterday as we continue to fine tune a great roster. The relay teams are starting to take shape, as we continue to excel in the sprints, distances, and field events. The Vikings of Goddard brought some strong athletes, but Nash McMonigle continued his high and long jumping dominance with a first and second place finish. Ryder Wallace looked fast and strong, finishing second in hurdles and first in discus. Rylan Sinclair blazed onto the scene in the relays and nearly lit the track on fire, propelling the 4 x100 and Medley Relay to first place finishes. Pumas, we have a solid team this year. You should come watch us run! Don't forget, we have a Muller and a Snyman.
